Movie Antwone Fisher

Nutshell Self-indulgent writer writes a script about his horrible life. Oh, and names it after himself. Buy the book now on Amazon (also self-titled).
Good Things Viola Davis in an amazing cameo, her five minutes is ALMOST worth sitting through this dreck.
Bad Things During moments of trauma, we cut away to the porch swing. An actual scene where the "hero" pouts and sits in Denzel's office. Cut to Denzel, in different clothes, showing the passage of days. I kid you not. Why they couldn't just film the clock spinning around like the good old days, I just don't know. You gotta worry when the movie opens with a dream sequence which has a painful payoff at the end. Make it stop, daddy, make it stop!!! (The movie I mean.)
Features Denzel Washington's directorial debut. Painful acting. Hunky Derek Luke, who needs to be in something better. We had a rough life, but dang it, we're gonna get through it.
Uncomfortable Moments Most of the movie. Especially the sappy parts that are supposed to make people cry. Dreadful moment where he confronts his abusers. "I'm better than you. You're not gonna get me down." Or some such awful dialogue.
Notable Self-indulgent crap. Oh boo hoo. I had a terrible life so I wrote a script about it and passed it off on some schmuck at Sony. GET OVER YOURSELF! To think, they were actually trying to pass this off as this year's black statement. Denzel takes two steps back.
Best Part Viola Davis.
Best Line There are NO good lines.
