Movie 21 Grams

Nutshell Death brings three people together and changes them all.
Good Things Naomi Watts gives one of the most amazing performances of the year. Sean Penn and Benecio del Toro are no slouches either.
Bad Things You're never really sure what came first. The director (don't even ask me to spell his name) compares it to a dream. It's more like an acid trip from which you really want to wake up. (Alejandro González Iñárritu - Ed.)
Features Melissa Leo in a memorable role. If you like handheld cinematography that is literally IN YOUR FACE, this is the film for you this year. Former alcoholics, church scenes, sober parties (WTF? - Ed.), two of the most adorable children you'll ever see. Naomi Watts and Sean Penn have sex, up close and personal. Yet another title which doesn't really mean anything in the context of the film (see Mystic River). Swimming pools.
Uncomfortable Moments Oh my god, they're not gonna show that...are they? Cut to leaf blower.
Notable My roommate calls this type of movie a "gimmick flick." Memento was an example of a good gimmick. This is not. If you laid this story out sequentially, it'd be dead boring. It'd be a Movie of the Week. It's trendy and cool because someone mixed up the film clips in an editing blender. Call me old, but I find it irritating.
Best Part Naomi Watts is one of the most amazing actresses around. Her moments resonate long after. In this, as in Mulholland Drive, she has one scene that just makes you go, WOW.
Best Line "Sooner or later, everyone has to deal with God."
Crowns 3 out of 5
